MARRIAGEMarriage is a very special way of life where a man and a woman, in ministering the sacrament to each other in the presence of the priest and the church community, commit themselves solemnly, irrevocably, and with great joy, to a lifetime of love, care, respect and value, each to the other. The way they live out their relationship mirrors the unconditional love which Christ has for the Church. It is at the same time, a very human relationship with all that this entails, and through the sacrament, is showered with blessings from God. Catholic marriage, therefore, has a membership of three - with Almighty God the very present and active third party.
Here at St. Wulstan's we place a high value on preparation for the vocation of marriage, and call all couples to set aside quality time for this. Arranging your ceremony, therefore, needs to be more than one of a list of items to be ticked off; it is central to the whole process. We ask couples for a minimum of six month's notice for marriage, so that personal preparation for the sacrament and appropriate civil and church administration can be fitted in. If you are hoping to be married in St. Wulstan's or at Holy Family, please contact Fr Richard on 01299 822633 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
"I call upon these persons here present to witness that I ... ... do take thee ... ... to be my lawful wedded wife/husband to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
Canon Law requires all Catholics to marry in a Catholic Church before a Catholic priest, and a marriage contracted otherwise is not regarded by the Church as a valid marriage. Dispensations can be obtained with good reason so that a marriage can be validly conducted in a church of another denomination. Wherever you want to get married you must first contact your Parish Priest or that of your fiancée.
After some years of marriage, marriages can often become tired. Marriage encounter courses are run to renew marriages and make good marriages better. Marriage encounter courses, which are week-end courses, can make a huge difference to the quality of your marriage relationship.
